We are a normal GP practice, looking after public and private patients.

We are 2 doctors, myself and Dr Sinead Beirne, and a nurse (my Mrs Caitriona O’Sullivan, who is practice nurse, midwife, breastfeeding support etc). We share 3 reception staff with the other GP practice.

We provide the full range of GP services, from cradle to grave, including maternity care, cervical screening, childhood and travel vaccination, contraception, health screening, ECG, lung function testing, chronic illness care, blood tests, repeat prescriptions and so on, but we also have some specialized services that are not commonly found in most practices:

  • Minor surgery procedures, from ingrown toenails and cysts to moles and skin cancers, wart freezing etc. We take referrals from all over Dublin and carry out approx. 700 procedures annually
  • We provide ultrasound scanning, including general abdominal scanning, assessment of prostate, aorta, gallstones, uterus, and pregnancy scanning.
  • As a result, we have an extensive maternity practice, participate in shared antenatal care with the hospital, offer midwife care and provide comprehensive breastfeeding support for new parents.
  • We combine ultrasound and surgical skills to find and remove contraceptive implants that get lost in people’s arms
  • We have substantial expertise in diabetes care.

Maternity Services

For those couples having difficulty conceiving, we provide initial testing and advice, and help couples prepare for fertility treatments when needed.

We specialise in antenatal care! We provide the free Mother and Infant Scheme, but also carry out ultrasound scanning from 6 weeks onwards. Dads are welcome at these scans and antenatal visits, and have been throughout the Covid pandemic. We provide the flu and whooping cough vaccines, and offer non-invasive pre-natal testing for Downs and other trisomies at a manageable cost at 10 weeks of pregnancy.

After 20 weeks, most couples attend Caitriona O’Sullivan for their antenatal visits. She is a midwife and experienced neonatal nurse, and helps you prepare for baby. Caitriona is also very experienced with supporting breast-feeding, and we urge all couples to get in touch as soon as they come home to access her advice and help.

We are especially concerned with the ‘epidemic’ of tongue tie and the interaction between some midwives including some hospital based lactation consultants, and doctors providing surgical procedures for very large numbers of newborns. We urge all families to wait and discuss the procedure with the GP at the baby’s 2 week check, as we feel most of these procedures are not necessary.
